Hello my name is Jordan Alturas. I currently serve as a church planting missionary through the North American Mission Board in planting the Fellowship Church in State College PA.
The name Fellowship was chosen from 1 John 1:3 representing the fact we are proclaiming the gospel with the intent to draw people into relationship with God and us.
Our Purpose is to: Love God, love others, and live your purpose.
Loving God and others are the two greatest commandments which is the purpose we are to live for and since each person is an image bearer of God we believe everyone has an individual purpose as a part of God's kingdom for which they were uniquely created and talented to fulfill.
Our Vision for our church includes 3 important aspects:
First is that it is focused on proclaiming the gospel firmly rooted in God’s revealed word (Acts 2:42; Ephesians 2:19-22). Second is the importance of a deeply relational culture (Acts 2:41-47), and third is being intentional about making disciples (Matt. 28:19-20). And finally all of these should lead to our joy, both personally as well as collectively. As we know God more intimately through His scripture, our love for one another will grow, and we will be driven as ambassadors of the gospel to bring more people into fellowship with us and God, resulting in greater joy for us all.
Demographics of State College:
70% between the age of 18-24
13% between the age of 25 - 44
Penn State has 46,000 students with over 7500 freshman students coming in each year.
Currently about 10% international students with a goal of 20% by 2020.
A church here is leveraged to reach our nation as students graduate and move to start their careers, as well as the world, as each year international students are graduating and going back to there home countries we have the potential of sending missionaries out each year who already are set up in areas of influence in their culture, returning as doctors, teachers, scientists, engineers etc.
