I grew up playing games, and there are lots of things to love about gaming and the gaming community. Games can test your reflexes and let you be a part of fantastical worlds that otherwise could only exist in our imaginations. Playing games with others, sharing these exciting and imaginative experiences, can bring people closer together. And as games tackle the tough issues that face our society, they can challenge our beliefs and our preconceptions of the world around us.
As Christians, God has called us to share in his work of spreading his Gospel to those around us, and of redeeming culture for his glory. When the Israelites were held in captivity in Babylon, he instructed them to engage with the culture that was around them: “seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you to exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper” (Jeremiah 29:7). Jesus echoed this call when he told his followers to “go therefore and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19).
Gamers and game culture need Christ’s redemptive power just like the rest of the world. Hundreds of millions of people around the world play games on their TVs, smartphones, and living room tables every year; they have an enormous impact on our economy and an immeasurable impact on our society. We as Christians must have a voice in game culture; God has poured out his love on us, and he has given us the chance to spread that love with gamers, trusting in his power to redeem this lively and influential community.
Gospel & Gaming is a ministry dedicated to sharing the love and Gospel of Jesus Christ with gamers all over the world. As Content Director, my role in this ministry is to help us engage with the depth and breadth of game culture through the articles, interviews, videos, and other content we publish on our website. All of this is made possible by your prayers and financial support.
